National Remote Sensing Day

About Workshop
National Remote Sensing Day is observed every year on 12 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the Father of the Indian Space Programme. The occasion celebrates his visionary contributions to satellite technology and its applications in natural resource management, environmental monitoring, and national development.

To mark this significant occasion, India Space Lab is organizing a special online workshop titled "Remote Sensing and GIS for Disaster Management". The workshop aims to create awareness and enhance understanding of geospatial technologies and their critical role in disaster preparedness, monitoring, assessment, mitigation, and emergency response.

The workshop will explore the application of geospatial technologies in monitoring and managing natural disasters including floods, cyclones, earthquakes, landslides, droughts, and wildfires. Participants will also learn about modern techniques for disaster risk assessment, damage mapping, early warning systems, and decision support using satellite data and GIS tools.
